Hiding a layoff from the family, bad idea?, bookkeeper here

I was laid off 16 weeks ago and have not told my family because I do not want them to worry. I am in Denver, in case local advice matters. I feel ashamed even though the company cut a whole team. What did you say?

Do not wait until a bill surprises them. The longer it goes, the harder it gets.
