Hiding a layoff from the family, bad idea? - any advice?

My spouse does not know yet that I was let go as an electrician's helper. I have been trying to stay organised about it. I feel ashamed even though the company cut a whole team. How did you handle it?

Thanks for writing this out. I went through something close to it 14 months ago, and it got easier once I kept a simple log of every call and form.
