Hiding a layoff from the family, bad idea? - any advice?

I was laid off 11 weeks ago and have not told my family because I do not want them to worry. I am in Jacksonville, in case local advice matters. I feel ashamed even though the company cut a whole team. What did you say?

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It saved me later.
