Hiding a layoff from the family, bad idea? - any advice?

My spouse does not know yet that I was let go as a warehouse supervisor. I am in Salt Lake City, in case local advice matters. I want a plan before I speak. Did it get easier afterwards?

Shame is common after a layoff even when it is not your fault. Saying it out loud to one person first helped me.
