Hiding a layoff from the family, bad idea? after 9 years as a warehouse supervisor

I was laid off 9 weeks ago and have not told my family because I do not want them to worry. I do not usually post, so bear with me. I feel ashamed even though the company cut a whole team. Did it get easier afterwards?

Do not wait until a bill surprises them. The longer it goes, the harder it gets.
