Hiding a layoff from the family, bad idea? after 9 years as a bank teller

I was laid off 6 weeks ago and have not told my family because I do not want them to worry. I want a plan before I speak. What did you say?

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It made the follow-up calls so much easier.
