Hiding a layoff from the family, bad idea? after 6 years as an office manager

I was laid off 9 weeks ago and have not told my family because I do not want them to worry. I feel ashamed even though the company cut a whole team. Did it get easier afterwards?

Thanks for writing this out. I went through something close to it 6 months ago, and it got easier once I kept a simple log of every call and form.

I told my partner the same evening with a simple plan: what happened, what I was doing and what I needed. It was a relief.
