Hiding a layoff from the family, bad idea? after 5 years as a barista

My spouse does not know yet that I was let go as a barista. It has been a long 10 weeks. I want a plan before I speak. Did it get easier afterwards?

Do not wait until a bill surprises them. The longer it goes, the harder it gets.
