Hiding a layoff from the family, bad idea? after 16 years as a forklift operator

I was laid off 16 weeks ago and have not told my family because I do not want them to worry. I am in Cleveland, in case local advice matters. I feel ashamed even though the company cut a whole team.

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It saved me later.
