Hiding a layoff from the family, bad idea? after 14 years as a dental hygienist

My spouse does not know yet that I was let go as a dental hygienist. Any experience at all would help. I want a plan before I speak. Did it get easier afterwards?

Do not wait until a bill surprises them. The longer it goes, the harder it gets.
