Hiding a layoff from the family, bad idea? after 13 years as a marketing coordinator

My spouse does not know yet that I was let go as a marketing coordinator. Bills are coming up and I cannot keep this quiet. How did you handle it?

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It made the follow-up calls so much easier.
