Hiding a layoff from the family, bad idea?, accounts payable clerk here

I was laid off 3 weeks ago and have not told my family because I do not want them to worry. I worked as an accounts payable clerk before this. I feel ashamed even though the company cut a whole team.

I told my partner the same evening with a simple plan: what happened, what I was doing and what I needed. It was a relief.

Shame is common after a layoff even when it is not your fault. Saying it out loud to one person first helped me.
