Hiding a layoff from the family, bad idea?

I have been leaving the house at the same time each day so my kids do not notice. I do not usually post, so bear with me. I feel ashamed even though the company cut a whole team. How did you handle it?

Shame is common after a layoff even when it is not your fault. Saying it out loud to one person first helped me.

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It saved me later.
