Hiding a layoff from the family, bad idea?

My spouse does not know yet that I was let go as a pharmacy technician. I do not usually post, so bear with me. I feel ashamed even though the company cut a whole team. Did it get easier afterwards?

Do not wait until a bill surprises them. The longer it goes, the harder it gets.
