Hiding a layoff from the family, bad idea?

My spouse does not know yet that I was let go as an electrician's helper. I do not usually post, so bear with me. I feel ashamed even though the company cut a whole team. What did you say?

Shame is common after a layoff even when it is not your fault. Saying it out loud to one person first helped me.
