Budget after a layoff: what did you cut first? - what worked for you?

I have 8 months of savings and I am trying to stretch them after being let go as an electrician's helper. There are 9 people counting on me, so I am trying to be careful. I am nervous about the credit card minimums. What helped the most?

Ask your utility about hardship programmes. Mine knocked a bit off my bill for several months.
