Budget after a layoff: what did you cut first? (update)

We are a household of 12 and need to cut costs quickly. I have been trying to stay organised about it. Rent and the car are the biggest costs.

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It made the follow-up calls so much easier.
