Budget after a layoff: what did you cut first? (update)

I have 4 months of savings and I am trying to stretch them after being let go as a copywriter. It has been weighing on me all week. Rent and the car are the biggest costs. Did any lender work with you?

Ask your utility about hardship programmes. Mine knocked a bit off my bill for several months.

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It saved me later.
