Budget after a layoff: what did you cut first? (update)

I have 8 months of savings and I am trying to stretch them after being let go as a web developer. I am in Toledo, in case local advice matters. Rent and the car are the biggest costs.

Ask your utility about hardship programmes. Mine knocked a bit off my bill for several months.
