Budget after a layoff: what did you cut first? - any advice?

I have 6 months of savings and I am trying to stretch them after being let go as a graphic designer. I would rather hear the honest version than the polite one. Rent and the car are the biggest costs. Did any lender work with you?

Ask your utility about hardship programmes. Mine knocked a bit off my bill for several months.
