Budget after a layoff: what did you cut first? after 7 years as an electrician's helper

We are a household of 7 and need to cut costs quickly. I do not usually post, so bear with me. Rent and the car are the biggest costs. What did you cut first?

Subscriptions first, then the phone plan. I saved about $1200 a year just by switching to a cheaper plan.
