Budget after a layoff: what did you cut first? after 6 years as a medical assistant

I have 5 months of savings and I am trying to stretch them after being let go as a medical assistant. There are 6 people counting on me, so I am trying to be careful. Rent and the car are the biggest costs. What helped the most?
