Benefits end date after a layoff after 15 years as an accountant

HR said my health plan continues for a bit and I do not understand how. I would rather hear the honest version than the polite one. I have an appointment next week. How did you confirm your end date?

I moved my appointments earlier while coverage was active. It saved me a bill.
