Benefits end date after a layoff, accounts payable clerk here

HR said my health plan continues for a bit and I do not understand how. Any experience at all would help. I do not want to be surprised by a bill. What should I do about appointments?

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It made the follow-up calls so much easier.
