Word-of-mouth leads in St. Louis - what worked for you?

A friend who works at a local manufacturer says there are openings not advertised online. This is my first time dealing with any of this. They prefer people who can start within a couple of weeks. Does anyone have similar leads?

Keep a list of who you contacted and when. It makes follow-ups easy.

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It saved me later.
