Word-of-mouth leads in Milwaukee after 12 years as a sales associate

Two small Milwaukee employers told me they are hiring but have not posted yet. I am in Milwaukee, in case local advice matters. They like a brief email with a résumé. Does anyone have similar leads?

Visiting in person worked for a trades job. For office jobs, email was better.
