Word-of-mouth leads in Boise - what worked for you?

Two small Boise employers told me they are hiring but have not posted yet. Any experience at all would help. They prefer people who can start within a couple of weeks. Does anyone have similar leads?

Visiting in person worked for a trades job. For office jobs, email was better.
