Word-of-mouth leads in Austin - 7 months and counting

Two small Austin employers told me they are hiring but have not posted yet. I am in Austin, in case local advice matters. They prefer people who can start within a couple of weeks. Does anyone have similar leads?

Visiting in person worked for a trades job. For office jobs, email was better.
