Small employers hiring around Spokane - any advice?

Two small Spokane employers told me they are hiring but have not posted yet. I have read a lot of threads here and could not find my exact situation. They like a brief email with a résumé. Does anyone have similar leads?

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It made the follow-up calls so much easier.

Visiting in person worked for a trades job. For office jobs, email was better.
