Seasonal jobs that might turn permanent - any advice?

A retailer and two warehouses near Charlotte are hiring seasonal staff. I am in Charlotte, in case local advice matters. I would like to avoid a gap in my résumé. Has anyone been converted to permanent?

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It saved me later.

I was converted after one season because I showed up every day and volunteered for extra shifts. Managers remember that.
