Seasonal jobs that might turn permanent - any advice?

A retailer and two warehouses near Memphis are hiring seasonal staff. Any experience at all would help. I would like to avoid a gap in my résumé. Has anyone been converted to permanent?

I was converted after one season because I showed up every day and volunteered for extra shifts. Managers remember that.

Apply to several. Start dates and schedules change quickly and having options helps.
