Seasonal jobs that might turn permanent - any advice?

A retailer and two warehouses near Boise are hiring seasonal staff. I would rather hear the honest version than the polite one. I would like to avoid a gap in my résumé. Which employers treat seasonal workers well?

Thanks for writing this out. I went through something close to it last year, and it settled down once I kept a simple log of every call and form.
