Public-sector jobs open for Kansas City residents after 15 years as a machine operator

The city and county near Kansas City both posted administrative and maintenance openings this week. There are 15 people counting on me, so I am trying to be careful. Hiring is slower than private jobs. Do they prefer local residents?

It took me about two months from application to offer. Apply early and keep your contact details current.

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It made the follow-up calls so much easier.
