Part-time jobs that fit around childcare - what worked for you?

A grocery chain and a hotel near Baltimore are hiring part-time staff. Thank you in advance. They can give a schedule two weeks ahead. Is the schedule really fixed?

I got the job by going in around mid-morning and asking for the manager. Worth a try.
