Part-time jobs that fit around childcare - what worked for you?

A grocery chain and a hotel near Sacramento are hiring part-time staff. This is my first time dealing with any of this. They can give a schedule two weeks ahead. Has anyone worked these shifts?

I got the job by going in around mid-morning and asking for the manager. Worth a try.

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It saved me later.
