Part-time jobs that fit around childcare (Detroit)

A grocery chain and a hotel near Detroit are hiring part-time staff. There are 3 people counting on me, so I am trying to be careful. They can give a schedule two weeks ahead. Has anyone worked these shifts?

Thanks for writing this out. I went through something close to it 12 months ago, and it settled down once I kept a simple log of every call and form.
