Part-time jobs that fit around childcare - any advice?

A grocery chain and a hotel near Buffalo are hiring part-time staff. Thank you in advance. Shifts are four to six hours and the pay is weekly. Has anyone worked these shifts?

Ask whether the schedule is posted in advance and how they handle swaps. It matters a lot with kids.
