Part-time jobs that fit around childcare - any advice?

A grocery chain and a hotel near Minneapolis are hiring part-time staff. Any experience at all would help. They can give a schedule two weeks ahead. Has anyone worked these shifts?

I got the job by going in around mid-morning and asking for the manager. Worth a try.
