Part-time jobs that fit around childcare - any advice?

A grocery chain and a hotel near Raleigh are hiring part-time staff. I have been trying to stay organised about it. They can give a schedule two weeks ahead. Has anyone worked these shifts?

I worked evenings at a hotel. The hours were steady and the team was friendly, but weekends were busy.
