Part-time jobs that fit around childcare - any advice?

A grocery chain and a hotel near Richmond are hiring part-time staff. There are 3 people counting on me, so I am trying to be careful. Shifts are four to six hours and the pay is weekly. Has anyone worked these shifts?

I worked evenings at a hotel. The hours were steady and the team was friendly, but weekends were busy.
