Part-time jobs that fit around childcare after 10 years as a machine operator

I am looking for part-time work that fits around school hours and found a few evening shifts near San Diego. They can give a schedule two weeks ahead. Is the schedule really fixed?

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It made the follow-up calls so much easier.

Check how they treat part-time staff for benefits. Some add them after a set number of hours.
