Part-time jobs that fit around childcare - 16 weeks in

A grocery chain and a hotel near Salt Lake City are hiring part-time staff. This is my first time dealing with any of this. They can give a schedule two weeks ahead. Is the schedule really fixed?

I got the job by going in around mid-morning and asking for the manager. Worth a try.
