Jobs at small St. Louis companies nobody posts about - what worked for you?

Two small St. Louis employers told me they are hiring but have not posted yet. I have been trying to stay organised about it. They like a brief email with a résumé. Does anyone have similar leads?

Visiting in person worked for a trades job. For office jobs, email was better.

Keep a list of who you contacted and when. It makes follow-ups easy.
