Jobs at small St. Louis companies nobody posts about - any advice?

Two small St. Louis employers told me they are hiring but have not posted yet. It has been a long 17 weeks. They prefer people who can start within a couple of weeks. Does anyone have similar leads?

Keep a list of who you contacted and when. It makes follow-ups easy.

Visiting in person worked for a trades job. For office jobs, email was better.
