Jobs at small Kansas City companies nobody posts about - what worked for you?

Two small Kansas City employers told me they are hiring but have not posted yet. I worked as a machine operator before this. They prefer people who can start within a couple of weeks. Does anyone have similar leads?

Visiting in person worked for a trades job. For office jobs, email was better.
