Hiring several warehouse roles around Chicago after 11 years as a graphic designer

A logistics company in Chicago is adding people before the busy season. I am in Chicago, in case local advice matters. They said to bring ID and a work history, and some people were hired on the spot. Do they hire temps first?

Thanks for writing this out. I went through something close to it 13 months ago, and it settled down once I kept a simple log of every call and form.
