Flexible shifts hiring in Sacramento - any advice?

A grocery chain and a hotel near Sacramento are hiring part-time staff. There are 7 people counting on me, so I am trying to be careful. They can give a schedule two weeks ahead. Is the schedule really fixed?

Ask whether the schedule is posted in advance and how they handle swaps. It matters a lot with kids.
