Flexible shifts hiring in Minneapolis - any advice?

A grocery chain and a hotel near Minneapolis are hiring part-time staff. I have read a lot of threads here and could not find my exact situation. They can give a schedule two weeks ahead. Is the schedule really fixed?

I worked evenings at a hotel. The hours were steady and the team was friendly, but weekends were busy.
