Fair-chance hiring leads - what worked for you?

I got a lead on a company that does not ask about convictions on the first application. There are 16 people counting on me, so I am trying to be careful. They still run a background check later but consider it case by case. Did they ask about it in the interview?

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It made the follow-up calls so much easier.
