Fair-chance hiring leads - any advice?

A few employers in Chicago say they hire people with a record, including a manufacturer and a warehouse. I would rather hear the honest version than the polite one. Pay starts at an hourly rate with benefits after 8 months. Did they ask about it in the interview?

Be honest, brief and forward-looking when you talk about it. They care more about what you did since.
